The Treventus ScanRobot is a new breed of Colour, Greyscale and Black
and White Book scanner that allows you to place a book on its' unique
book carrier and then walk away. The book scanner will then scan and turn
every page by itself until the book is completed. The book Scanner has been
designed to turn the pages very carefully, allowing even books that are
several centuries old to be scanned.
The very gentle book scanning and page turning process was developed and
optimised in close collaboration with the German Institute for book and
handwriting restoration (IBR) and the Munich Digitisation Centre (MDZ)
of the BSB.
The books are only opened to a 60 degree angle to prevent over
stretching and damage to the spine. Books with different paper
densities, porosites and textures can all be easily scanned. Then using
a unique prism technology and automatic book cradle alignment each page
is scanned distortion-free right up to the book binding. This then
allows for excellent OCR'ing of those images. Scanning is accomplished
with heat, infrared and UV-free illumination and both the book and
operator are only exposed to the light for a few milliseconds, thus
reducing light exposure to a previously unattainable minimum.
The Treventus ScanRobot is made to extremely high Austrian standards
which enables it to work 24 hour shifts. At scan speeds of up to 2500
pages per hour the ScanRobot is a very serious production Book scanner.
Please note Book scan speeds are very much dependent on the condition and
width of the original books.
Maximum book thickness is 12cm and page thickness can vary between 60
and 240 gsm.
