OIT - New Company Purchase
On Monday 9th June The Microfilm Shop purchased the OIT UK division of Graphic Data Ltd.
OIT UK are the exclusive UK dealer for the Optical Image Technology (OIT) Inc suite of Docfinity Records and Document Management software products. The Docfinity suite of products covers all aspects of Electronic Document, Content Management and Workflow.
Applications range from a single user up to a 500 user site with customers in a number of vertical markets including Health, Local Government, Finance, Banking, Insurance and Retail. Clients include The Football Association, The Co-op Group (TCG), Essex County Council, Centaur Communications, Royal Bank of Scotland and the very recently signed Addenbrookes Hospital .
The purchase of OIT UK represents a key strategic step in our aggressive plans to be able to offer a complete suite of records, document and workflow products to the whole end user market. Tied in with our unique and extensive service bureau partnership network we are now very close to reaching our goals. Now any organisation will be able to have ALL of their unique document management issues addressed - current, medium, long term or more likely a mix of all 3 - by one company.
The entire OIT team have moved over to the new company under the excellent direction of Vijay Magon - Technical Director (email: vijay.magon@oituk.com). Now that OIT ( UK ) Ltd is part of The Microfilm Shop Group it means that we can further extend the distribution of the OIT product range throughout the UK and Europe .
In the "Imaging" world OIT UK have what appears to be a very unusual approach to clients. Their product is not an off the shelf product; it is tailored to meet the individual clients needs and most importantly the Docfinity suite of products is tailored to work with a clients existing infrastructure. You do not have to switch off an existing system; you do not have to waste any recent spend, the Docfinity products will be made to work alongside and within your current systems. With modules such as Document Imaging, Workflow, COLD and Web Access every possible requirement can be catered for. With our own software developers and engineers all client requests can be met here in the UK by our own team.
Our history has been the microfilm market place and the securing of historic, legal and long-term information. We have and will continue to dominate the microfilm industry with a number of new microfilm products to be announced shortly (some of them announced in this Newsletter). The acquisition of OIT will allow us to become a leading player in the "Document Imaging" market aswell. With 25 years experience of looking after people's information properly, we intend bringing that same level of care and attention to detail to people's current information needs. There are very few organisations that can look after information that needs to be kept for up to 100 years and deliver that information to the desktop immediately. There are even fewer organisations that can do that with a market leading EDM product such as OIT.
We have also brought a leading technology and legislation expert on board to offer advice on how the OIT suite of Docfinity products can help you adhere to the Freedom of Information Act, Data Protection Act, Lord Chancellor's code of Practice etc.
In addition to OIT's direct sales representation, we intend to distribute the Docfinity suite of products through our network of bureaus and resellers both in the UK and throughout Europe. If you have an interest in becoming a reseller of OIT or you require more information on the OIT suite of products for your organisation then please contact our Sales Manager, Mr. Ian Case, at email address:
iancase@microfilm.com or by telephone on 44 (0)24 7625 4931
Open Days and NEW Corporate Identity Announced
Due to the exciting news of the OIT purchase (mentioned above), we have decided to hold two open days in October:
- a trade day on Tues. 7th October
- an end user day on Wed. 8th October
to allow interested parties the opportunity to find out more about OIT (UK) Ltd and the Docfinity suite of products. The Open Days will be held at the Hinckley Golf Club in Leicestershire (a five minute drive from our Nuneaton headquarters).
If you play golf then we are playing a number of rounds at Hinckley on the afternoon of Monday 6th October. Places are limited but players of below average ability are warmly welcome to play alongside our Managing Director!
However there will be a large number of other products and topics to talk about in addition to the OIT announcement:-
The Microfilm Shop new logo
The Microfilm Shop logo has been redesigned with a new font and new logo colours - no more Orange !!
New corporate name
With the purchase of OIT we now have 5 companies in the Group:-
The Microfilm Shop - manufacturers and distributors of microfilm consumables and equipment (see www.microfilm.com)
The Microfilm Factory - manufacturers of microfilm jackets and other microfilm related plastic and polyester products
Graphic Press - commercial printers and stationers for all manner of business stationery and marketing materials (see www.graphicpress.co.uk)
OIT - Distributors and Integrators of Document and Records Management software, workflow and EDM systems (see www.oituk.com)
Archive Imaging - Integrator and advisor on hybrid document management systems (see www.archiveimaging.co.uk)
This means that as a Group we can handle all types of information and images from your current digital and presentational information all the way through to your archival and historic information - all with one system and supplier. However, due to the large number of companies and the confused message that they might deliver we have decided to launch ONE brand new corporate identity that will be the new name for the whole Group of companies.
All individual companies will be contactable via their traditional names and contact details.
However they will all be marketed as divisions of the new company. This new company will represent the services and products of the whole Group and provide an easy access point to the entire range.
SO WHAT IS THE NEW NAME?
It has been a long and interesting project to think of a new name for the Group. We wanted something short and sweet, we wanted something memorable, we wanted something different but, above all, we did not want to use some play on words of the 'Negus' name like Genneg.
So, the new name is ...

Thank goodness we didn't go all incestuous on you!
In all seriousness we wanted to reinforce the point that even though we are trying to make our Group of companies more accessible and more modern we also wanted to remind people that:-
- We are a family company with a long term perspective
- We are independent and privately owned so that we can provide correct products not fashionable products
- We have a 25 year reputation of providing high quality products and services
- We are extremely loyal and protective of our customers
- We want to help our customers walk into the digital arena with a supplier and friend that they feel comfortable with
- We want to make sure that digital systems are supplied, maintained and archived properly - microfilm has never been more necessary
- We have a highly trained and knowledgeable staff with an average of over 10 years experience each in the information management world

New Roll Film Reader
A NEW 16/35mm reader? Surely Not?
We are very pleased to be able to announce the launch of a brand new 16/35mm roll film reader. When we say new we mean new to the European market. This reader has been sold successfully in its hundreds for over 20 years in the South American market to genealogists and libraries.
Come and see this fully motorised (manual version available) reader on show at our Open Days on October 7th and 8th. The Microfilm Shop are exclusively bringing this reader to the European market. It has all the normal features like high speed rewind, dual lens and image rotation. It even has a remote keypad for ease of use and user adjustable browse speed.
Please contact our sales team if you would like a demonstration and details of the very competitive prices.
Multifly Carrier
The Multifly is a brand new carrier that will fit onto both the Kodak 2400 DSV and the 3000 DSV plus the Canon MS300/400/500 and MS800. The Multifly is an automatic fiche/jacket carrier that allows you to turn your on-demand Kodak or Canon microfilm scanners into production fiche/jacket scanners.
Once the fiche/jacket has been inserted into the conventional glass carrier section the scanner can be left alone to scan the fiche/jacket automatically. One of the unique advantages of this carrier is that it specialises in being able to cope with mixed image size fiche and jackets. If you have combination jackets (with 16mm and 35mm images) or just different sized 16mm images in the same jacket (cheques, A4, computer print out and A3) then the Multifly will be able to cope with it. As the Multifly is actually a carrier that can be removed at any time quickly and easily it means that it is ideal for the bureau application allowing the bureau to be able to switch between different jobs and not have several machines dedicated to just one type of film.
IMIS
This is our 'Off-the-shelf' document management software product. In the last six months IMIS has really started to take off.
IMIS is ideal for the small to medium user especially for vertical markets like Accountants, Solicitors, Local Authorities and the general retail market.
The baby of our range has grown up this year with new modules to allow for a client server version that runs on SQL which will handle hundreds of users across WAN's and give web access.
At our Open Days you will be able to listen to the designer himself talk about the new additions.
A perfect compliment to the OIT suite of Docfinity products, IMIS provides a more economical solution to your document management problems.

Ammonia & Absorber for ABR 404, 505 & 506
There are many users of the older ABR 404, 505 and 506 cut sheet diazo duplicators and developers.
Some suppliers of the small bottles of ammonia and absorber have now discontinued supply. Not in Nuneaton though! We have just started to manufacture ammonia and absorber in these special bottles. In fact we can supply ammonia and absorber in any sized bottles that you require - just ask us. We can also supply absorber in powder format for our export customers so that they are not paying for the shipping of water.
We are also able to supply spare parts for the ABR 404, 505 and 506 duplicators. However if you are looking at replacing your older machines then we have the REAL RB1-2-1m duplicator (exposes and develops within the same unit), the REAL RB 1060m developer unit (high speed developer unit that can be used in conjunction with 2 or 3 exposure units due to its high speed) and the REAL RB 1000m high speed roll to fiche exposure and developer unit - see www.microfilm.com for more details.

Heavy Duty Systems Cleaner
We are launching a new heavy duty systems cleaner which includes a cleaner, neutraliser and activator. This cleaner has been so good in trials that we are now selling it to equipment manufacturers who use it to degrease parts before assembly.
